Are Home Theater Systems Making Movie Theaters Obsolete?
When I watch an old movie on television, I wonder what it would have been like to see it on the big screen. Can you imagine a time when you had to leave your home to watch a movie? Can you imagine going back in time and telling people sitting in a dark movie house that someday they could watch the same movie in their home? Today with the best home theater systems ever invented, movie going is becoming a thing of the past.
Today you can have Dolby surround sound with a better sound system than most theaters had in the 20th century. You can hear background noise in the back of you while listening to the dialog in the foreground.
If you can control all of the movie experience at home, why go out to a theater? Sure you have to pop your own popcorn but it is usually a lot cheaper than at the theater.
This change in the way we not only watch movies but hear movies is reflected in the number of people who go out to the movies. The movie industry has been suffering. But this does not mean they are not making money.
Would you rather pay , to see a movie once? Or would you rather pay for the DVD and watch it as many times as you like? The film makers are focusing on DVD sales to make up the lost profit at the movie theaters.
The movie industry is working with the best home theater systems by making movies with a lot of unique sound so that people buy DVD’s not only for the video but also for the audio. Thus, everyone is happy. People enjoy their home movie experience and the film makers have found a new source of income. When was the last time you went to the movies?
