LCD (liquid crystal display) technology has developed a long way since we first used seeing their colorless gray versions on smaller gadgets. Superseding the old CRT technology, LCD's are now the mainstream display medium installed in applied in almost any electronic appliance or gadget.
Though standard fluorescent-backlit LCD's are already starting to be overshadowed by the more efficient LED-backlit LCD screens, it is still quite far from being completely obsolete. In fact, LCD TV's in particular might even have a few discreet advantages, as what could be demonstrated to us by the TCL L40FHDF12TA best 40 Inch TV.
Overall Looks and Specifications
The first thing that people would probably notice in the TCL L40FHDF12TA is that it is shaped quite neatly and thinly (albeit too normally) compared to other older LCD TV's. Since this is an HDTV, the 1080p (1920x1080) resolution is already a basic standard. The screen refresh rate is set at 60 Hz, which is also unsurprising given that this model isn't really at the cutting edge of visual entertainment technology.
Connection ports include a USB 2.0 port, numerous legacy analog audio and video ports, three HDMI ports, and a couple of other ports for PC use like VGA and S-Video ports. While there are a few connection ports placed at the side, most of the connection ports are placed at the back, which could be either convenient or frustrating depending on the setup that you want for the unit.
Most LCD screens before usually suffer from poor viewing angles. With enhancements in today's design configurations, the TCL L40FHDF12TA boasts a 178 degree viewing angle, enabling you to watch a movie comfortably even when you are not directly in front of the unit.
Product Comments
While the TCL L40FHDF12TA could at best be classified as an upgraded LCD TV, it still does prove to be quite worthy of all the features that it boasts on its advertisements. First, the picture is clean and sharp, and the sound quality and intensity is adequate enough for a single regular room. True, the display does not have the deeper and richer display texture natively found on LED TV's, but we believe that its display capabilities are sufficient enough for you to enjoy your movie or game normally.
The TCL L40FHDF12TA is officially advertised as a plug and play LCD HDTV model. While this is true to a degree, it was a bit ironic (though expected) that we had to adjust the display setting for each and every device that we connected to it. For example, we had to turn off all image processing options when we tried using the TV with an Xbox 360 console. In addition, even though it detects and plays/opens music files and/or pictures, it does not seem to automatically play video files. In fact the unit does not seem to support such function at all.
While we don't really have that much expectation from a typical LCD TV, the TCL L40FHDF12TA had still shown itself as a "formidable" display unit, when it presented all of its HD viewing enhancement specs. Its overall value as an electronic appliance could probably be even boosted by the basic fact that LCD screens are generally a lot cheaper than LED screens.

Despite my confirmed movie buffness, physical buffness and horror buffness and I haven’t seen most of the Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Hellraiser, Child’s Play, Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Saw or Hostel movies. Shocking as that may seem to other (horror) film aficionados, I’m afraid my disposition with regards to those franchises’ sequels is: what’s the point? How many different ways can you watch a bad guy torture… Continue reading
