Blu Ray is the latest and now the standard technology for high definition video that over took the HD-DVD technology of high definition movies and players.

There are many options when buying televisions, but two important ones to consider are size and resolution.

Television Style Options

Rear Projection - Although Plasma and LCD flat panel televisions seem to Sony Rear Projection Television be all the rage these days, many consumers are opting for the lower costing rear projection models, also known as, RPTV because of their lower cost as well as high performance.

Flat Panel Models - Comes in Plasma and LCD Flat Panel Television

The flat panel style is where the entire television unit is very thin and flat and they come in two models, plasma and LCD. The are very versatile for placement and do not have the bulky back end of the older tv's and so allow for a lot of flexibility in placement.

When choosing between plasma and LCD TVs, you're actually selecting between two competing technologies, both of which achieve very similar features, including fantastic crystal-clear images, super color-filled pictures and come in similar packages like, 3.5 inch depth flat screen casing.

Overall the picture quality of both is fantastic, with depth, picture dimension and superior clarity of color, the only difference between Plasma and LCD is the technology in which the picture is delivered to the viewer.

Plasma
uses many tiny cells between two panels of glass to hold an inert mixture of noble gases. The gas in the cells is electrically turned into a plasma which then excites phosphors to emit light. TV Stands for this type of model are available or most people mount them right on the wall.

LCD, or liquid crystal display on the other hand uses a matrix of thin-film transistors (TFTs) to supply voltage to liquid-crystal-filled cells sandwiched between two sheets of glass. When hit with an electrical charge, the crystals untwist to an exact degree to filter white light.

Size of the Television Screen

While the saying "bigger is always better" is rampant among television shoppers, this is not always the case.

Things to Consider for Size of the Screen

Size of the Space - Make sure the dimensions of the space where the television will sit are enough to fit the television.

Overall size of the room is significant. If the room is very small it will be better to get a smaller set, which will be more aesthetically pleasing and it will not take over the room.

Also putting a 65-inch set in a small room may put the viewer too close to a very large screen which may hinder the viewing experience. It is important to make sure the angle of view is correct, the best being where the seating is directly in front of the set, so the viewer has a direct view of the show.

Light of the room - Consider the natural light of the room. Some televisions will not function well in brightly lit rooms or when there is direct light on the screen, this may impact the size of the television you want to get because of the angle of light.

Resolution and Picture Quality

The best option is digital signal sets. Since the US is moving completely away from analog signals and only to digital all new models will conform to this standard.

The best option these days is the high definition resolution of 1080p, but for the budget aware there are lower resolution that will deliver quality picture as well.
