Ways To Cost Control Your Film Production

Film making is becoming more popular, especially as the techniques and the pre and post-production technologies used today are advancing at a phenomenal rate. Gone are the days of shooting on 35mm, and now digital format has become the standard and the equipment available has become more advanced whilst still remaining affordable. Low-budget indie films have also risen in popularity, and widespread fame can be achieved even if you're not one of the major Hollywood film studios.

The first step to determining your filming budget is to carefully look at the script, and it will be your job as a beginning filmmaker to decide if the budget is sufficient. The last thing you want happening is running out of money, and not being able to complete the project. Account for everything and over-estimate especially for post-production.

It's important to separate your filming budget according to events and scenes you have. For stunts and extensive action scenes, carefully calculate what vehicles you're going to need if there are car chases, helicopter shots etc. work out how much it's going to cost for each component. Stunts are extremely time consuming and will certainly add more than a few shooting days to your budget. Of course, there's the obviously cost of vehicles and stuntmen, but as soon as stunts are mentioned your liability insurance will skyrocket - and so it's paramount you don't get caught out by this.

Another important influential factor to your budget are special effects. You should decide early on, if you need special effects in your film. If your film requires special effects, there's several ways to do these on the cheap if you think creatively. Filming using a green screen, and using special effects software such as After Effects is one way. Another might be to re-use costume props and experiment with different lighting and camera settings.

The last two factors that will determine your formulation of budget are your cast and filming location(s). Work out if you really do need 100 actors or if 10 will suffice, as this can have a big impact on budget. It's important not to detract from the the storyline and the way its presented, rather than crediting hundreds of characters.

Finally, filming at several locations will add to the cost of the film. If possible, omit any location that will put a significant strain on your travel budget. It's far better to look for a location closer to home that satisfies what you're after. However, if the primary location will definitely add to the film's production values, then by all means go ahead, but always find ways to limit the time spent at the location. Further than image resolution, Blu Ray additionally employs much better video-compression methods, producing much more contrast as well as better colors. It truly is the best quality of video you can get inb the market today, with a comparable, if note better than picture that you get at the movies, when the Blu Ray player is used in conjunction with an HDTV.

Audio Quality
Audio quality is also much better. New high-resolution soundtrack formats, such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, are basically the same as the studio master, consequently you will be hearing sounds just as the director and audio editors designed.

Special Features
Blu Ray also has extra unique functions that DVD never did. The most basic innovation is the pop-up menu, allowing one to access the menu features as the movie keeps playing. Also, there is BD-Live, picture-in-picture video commentary, Internet connectivity, including models with built-in Wifi for streaming movies, videos, tv shows and all kinds of media from the Web.

WiFi Built In - Smart Blu Ray Players - Connect to Internet and stream movies, music, TV shows and more with WiFi built in.
WiFi Ready - Means the Wifi is not built in and you will need an adapter of some sort to connect.
BD-Live
BD-Live is a Blu-ray feature that enables you to access content, features and activities via your smart Blu-ray player. On some movies you'll be able to download a variety of up-to-date content (for example, refreshed previews and exclusive special features). There are also a host of next generation possibilities, such as ringtone/wallpaper downloads, peer-to-peer interactions, live events and gaming activities. For example, on the Blu Ray version of Julie & Julia with BD-Live, you can bookmark Julia Child's actual recipes while you watch the movie. At the end of the film, you can e-mail yourself the recipes, pretty cool!
